Tangerine

March 12th, 2010

Plans don’t always go accordingly. Today is a good example of that. I wanted to get that last iMac up and running, but I’m a bit low on time today. I could still squeeze it in, but it isn’t looking good. I’m hoping to get more of this done over the weekend.

Other than that, I got my shopping done, more than I bargained for though. Was up to 4am doing it (yeah 4am). Time for a nap at this point (yeah, I take naps, deal with it). ;)

More soon to come…

Staying home in the rain…

March 11th, 2010

What a wet dreary day, not that I don’t like rain, just not when I want to go out shopping in it. Oh well.

I’ve done a little UC work today, and hope to have the last iMac running later tonight/early Friday morning. I did manage to find my other Atari 7800 joystick too, in a place I didn’t expect to find it (found when looking for something else entirely).

As for more systems, very close to pulling out the Philips G7400. I don’t want to run it the whole time at the show, but will probably have it next to the Odyssey2, and swap between the two on the same TV set. That way I won’t be doing the 120 to 220 volt conversion all the time, which is a strain on the equipment.

For now though, some shopping, and a cram session at school (for a cert test). Weeeee!

Atari 7800 added to UC 2010 lineup

March 10th, 2010

I took a bit of time away from other things and tested another TV set finally, but this time with the Atari 7800 system. Since I got the system out, I’ve decided to simply add it to the UC 2010 display. I love this old system, especially Alien Brigade and a few other games that play very well on the old 7800. This system also has a nice S-video display, thanks to it having been MOD’d three years ago from a fellow video game friend.

I still need to get one more iMac system working for the LAN, plus dig out more TV sets, and pick a few more systems to have on display. That will hopefully happen before this coming weekend is up, but I make no promises.

Less than three weeks to go!

March 9th, 2010

Two weeks and a few days to go, and I’m not ready yet, but will be. As for what I was going to do this very early morning, it is on hold, as school wins over UC at this time. Sorry.

Nice to see that the speaker list will be posted on the MGC site very soon, for those folks who’ve been asking me about that!

Early Monday…

March 8th, 2010

The weekend is finally over (work weekend that is). I need to do a good amount of studying for an important test tomorrow, so I do not know if I’ll be going any UC (MGC) work today. I’m hoping to get in a little later today, possibly with finally getting my TV sets checked out.

Time will tell… later today or very early on Tuesday…

Sunday, sunday…

March 7th, 2010

Sunday again, and a work, sleep, work, sleep weekend too. Nothing done today, except what I just said. Sorry…

Moving stuff around

March 6th, 2010

Not much time to work on things today. I spent about an hour in the basement, moving stuff around to make room to finally test TV sets (yeah, I haven’t done that yet). Don’t expect problems, but I’d rather be safe that sorry. So, I now have a space to plop down TVs, plus ‘em in, and test them out. Yeah!

I also made a slight change to the Strawberry iMac – I remembered to change it’s IP address – don’t want any network conflicts during the Quake LAN.

Back to studying…

Friday…

March 5th, 2010

Yup, it’s later friday, as well. Not much work done today. Just picked out the next iMac to get ready. This one has FireWire, so I may just clone OS 9 over. Not really sure yet, with time getting low. As for a ninth machine, very seriously thinking of just using a B&W or the G4 from last year. It would be the LAN controller anyway.

Later folks…

Quake now 7-player

March 4th, 2010

I took a break from studying to work on that strawberry G3 iMac (code named Alice). I decided to take the hard drive out (and put in a fresh battery too – almost forgot to), and clone if off of an identical iMac (same specs and all), which worked rather well. I rebuild the desktop, tweaked a few settings, and Quake worked as expected. Thus, I can officially say that there is now a 7-player Quake LAN for the Underdog Chamber for 2010. I will doubtfully be able to increase that number until after next week Tuesday, due to school and work constraints. Thus for now, I need to get back to studying (after getting some sleep first though).

Mouse driver issues

March 4th, 2010

I had a little bit of time to try to get the Strawberry iMac working with Quake. I got the game onto the system, but was not successful at getting the mouse driver for a two-button mouse to work. The driver kept crashing the system, so I’ll have to dig around and see what’s up, at a later time though. Worse comes to worse, I either try to clone over a working OS 9 disk, or I scrap the one iMac, and go with a B&W G3 unit. Time will tell on this one, which I’m running short on.
