Even more stuff in the pipeline…

Sunday, November 29th, 2009

I went over a few Macs that I got recently, with the little time I currently have. One seems good, except the hard drive is noisy. The other, to my disappointment has a 233Mhz processor in it (original model). Oh well… I just fixed that buy ordering a few 333Mhz processors off of E(vil)Bay, along with another Mac. Yeah, what can I say, I like Macs. They had a good deal on a model I don’t have, and the shipping was included!

Now I get to sit back and wait for the stuff to show up, and hope it works as advertised.

Will update here as this progresses.

On the side, still trying to procure another gaming system, but the guy(s) involved are rather busy. Hopefully will hear something back soon.

Oh, and I ordered another transistor, for another attempt at upgrading the Odyssey2 video again. I hope this works out this time.

later…

More stuff in the works

Been a bit too busy with college work this month, and it will continue for the next few weeks, almost to Xmas time. Until then, I have acquired a few more devices for the show. If they test out okay, they will be added, and I’ll say what they are. If this goes well, one area of the UC will look cooler than ever.

Other than that, I’m still trying to get another gaming system for this coming year. Just waiting on a reply (waiting sucks – sometimes).

Ah. Back to the grindstone…

NPD October 2009 – Wii back in 1st place

Friday, November 13th, 2009

The NPD has released the October 2009 (U.S.) sales figures, with overall sales down from last month by around $200 million in both hardware and software sales. Not exactly a good sign in my book, with the holiday season coming up so quickly.

For October, the Wii took the #1 spot back (from the PS3 and DS), which I’m sure the price drop to $199 helped to achieve. The DS/DSi dropped to 2nd place, and the lower priced PS3 is in 3rd place, but a decent amount above the Xbox 360. The remaining follow of course.

NPD figures for October 2009 are:
Hardware:

  • Wii = 506,900 units sold! (up 9%)
  • NDS/DSi = 457,600 (down 14%)
  • PS3 = 320,600 (down 53%)
  • 360 = 249,700 (down 41%)
  • PSP = 174,600 down 9%)
  • PS2 = 117,800 (down 24%)

Software (top games for October 2009):

  • Uncharted 2: Among Thieves – PS3 = 537,000 units sold
  • Wii Fit Plus – Wii = 441,000
  • Borderlands – 360 = 418,000
  • Wii Sports Resort – Wii = 314,000
  • NBA 2K10 – 360 = 311,000
  • Halo 3:ODST – 360 = 271,000
  • NBA 2K10 – PS3 = 213,000
  • Forza Motorsport 3 – 360 = 175,000
  • Kingdom Hearts 358/2 – DS = 169,000
  • FIFA Soccer 10 – 360 = 156,000

The 360 took half the top ten games for October, but it didn’t get the top two spots. Uncharted 2 for the PS3 got the #1 spot, with Halo for the 360 dropping to 6th place. Nintendo’s Wii Fit Plus was the 2nd place game, doing well in replacing the original fitness game. The only spot for the DS was with Kingdom Hearts in 9th place. The rest is a nice mixture, but lite on Wii or DS games for the month.

In all, software sales #’s were about half of what they were a month ago. Let’s hope they pick up as we get much closer to Xmas (just a little over a month away).

Picked up some new (old) stuff!

Friday, November 6th, 2009

I haven’t gotten around to working on the IIe upgrade yet, but I did pick up some older Macs today. Hopefully I’ll get a chance in November to give them a thorough cleaning and set them up for the show. I’ll give out more information when I get the machines in the condition I want them in. Till then, it is a small secret.

I also hope to get some replacement hard drives from the same guy I got the used Macs from, in hopes of resurrecting the Mac SE computers that died last spring (bad hard drives of course – not the easiest thing to find with the older ones). I really want to have Dark Castle running at the show, plus some other cool System 6 games!

Slowly getting there…
