For the first time in a long time, video game sales are down 17% for the month of March. I personally don’t think it will stay this way, but there are those who always panic with a mention of reduced sales. Boo to those!
Oh, and sorry for being a little late in posting this information. I’m about a week late (blame it on school work).
Video game sales for March are following there normal trend though, with Nintendo leading in hardware sales, and not that much in software. It will be interesting to see how the DSi does for April. And with the reduction of the PS2 price to $99, I would expect it to surge in sales, to some point.
NPD figures for March 2009 are:
Hardware:
- Wii = 600,000 units sold!
- NDS = 563,000
- 360 = 330,000
- PS3 = 218,000
- PSP = 168,000
- PS2 = 115,000
Software (top games for March 2009):
- Resident Evil 5 Regular/Collector’s Edition – 360 = 938,000 units sold
- Pokemon Platinum – DS = 805,000
- Halo Wars Regular & Collector’s Edition – 360 =639,000
- Resident Evil 5 Regular/Collector’s Edition – PS3 = 585,000
- Wii Fit – Wii = 541,000
- MLB ’09 The Show – PS3 = 305,000
- Killzone 2 – PS3 = 296,000
- Wii Play with Wii Remote – Wii = 281,000
- Mario Kart Wii – Wii = 278,000
- Major League Baseball 2K9 – 360 = 205,000
Resident Evil 5 did rather well in March, but then again, so did Pokemon Platinum! Overall, the top consoles all have three games in the top 10, with the last spot filled by the DS. Of course, that darn Wii Play is still in the top ten. Ack!
