Been working on the Quake LAN recently, but I’ve bumped into a few issues along the way. I’ve gotten some new switches, for the LAN itself too, which replace some older hub technology I had. Bought some extra ethernet cables too. No problems with that stuff.
The issue I have now is getting the Macs (iMacs) ready. I started on my Blue iMac (500MHz) model, which is working just fine, as I figured. I then started working on a Dalmation iMac I got recently off of craigslist. Well, suffice it to say, but that unit is now considered partially operational. It works, but the from bezel (part of the casing) shattered into a lot of pieces when I was taking the unit apart (to clean it, and to get to the hard drive).
For now, I’m working on taking the hard drive out of the Blue iMac, so I can use a PowerMac G4 to clone the drive to other iMacs (Dalmation and Snow one for sure). I’ll be using two Newer Technolgy drive adaptors to do this. This should save a lot of setup time, as all I would have to do is just change a few settings after the drives are cloned (in theory). Will have more on this in the short time ahead. I need to get this stuff done. If it comes down to it, I’ll use the tower units from last year, but I’d rather go all iMac this year. Time will tell…
